The Spicy Awards are proudly organized by Spice Without Borders (SWOB)—a global leadership institute and social innovation movement dedicated to discovering, developing, and celebrating changemakers from the margins.

Founded in 2015 by Erick Inghatt Matsanza, Spice Without Borders exists to empower Activists, Creatives, Entrepreneurs, Initiators, and Innovators whose ideas and actions are transforming communities from the ground up.

Through leadership development, mentorship, storytelling, innovation labs, and global networks, SWOB equips purpose-driven leaders with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to create lasting social impact.

The Spicy Awards stand as one of its flagship initiatives—recognizing courageous individuals and organizations whose work often goes unseen, yet creates extraordinary change.


Our Symbol: The Chili

At the heart of Spice Without Borders is the chili—a powerful symbol of diversity, courage, resilience, and transformation.

Like chili in all its varieties, every changemaker carries a unique strength and purpose. Different in colour, different in character, yet united by one defining quality: the courage to create impact.

The official SWOB emblem reflects this philosophy. The word SPICE is woven into a stylized chili stem that rises into a vibrant multicoloured form. Its circular design—flowing through Red, Purple, Orange, Green, and Yellow—echoes the body of a chili in motion, forming a living symbol of energy, transformation, and collective power.

This emblem stands as a complete identity mark—used across digital platforms, events, and communications as a badge of the movement.


The SPICE Narrative

Each colour of the chili represents a distinct changemaker identity within the SPICE ecosystem:

  • Red — Activists
    Fearless defenders of justice, equality, and human dignity. They embody Strength.
  • Purple — Creatives
    Storytellers, artists, and culture-shapers who reimagine the world through expression. They embody Purpose.
  • Orange — Entrepreneurs
    Builders of opportunity who transform ideas into sustainable solutions. They embody Innovation.
  • Green — Initiators
    Grassroots catalysts who mobilize communities and spark collective action. They embody Creativism.
  • Yellow — Innovators
    Visionary thinkers who redesign systems and expand what is possible. They embody Equity.

Together, they form SPICE: Strength, Purpose, Innovation, Creativism, and Equity.

This is not just symbolism—it is a living framework for how change happens.

At Spice Without Borders, we believe meaningful transformation begins within.

Our leadership philosophy is inspired by the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) framework, which strengthens the inner capacities needed to address complex global challenges with clarity, empathy, and resilience.

We develop five interconnected dimensions of leadership:
