Individuals and organizations actively contributing to social, environmental, economic, cultural, technological or community impact may be nominated, subject to the eligibility requirements of the relevant Award category.
Can I nominate myself?
Yes. Self-nominations are welcome. A nominee may submit their own work and provide evidence demonstrating their impact, achievements, leadership and contribution.
Can someone be nominated in more than one category?
A person or organization may be relevant to more than one category. The Awards reserve the right to place a finalist in the most appropriate primary category to maintain a clear and fair recognition process.

The Awards recognize meaningful work across areas including:
  • Agriculture

  • Financial inclusion
  • Healthcare
  • Industry
  • Media
  • Technology
  • Tourism
Impact, leadership, innovation, integrity, relevance and alignment with the SPICE values are important considerations.
What makes a strong nomination?
A strong nomination clearly communicates the problem being addressed, the actions taken, the people or communities affected, the results achieved and the significance of the work. Specific examples and credible evidence are encouraged.
Are there fees to submit a nomination?
There is no nomination fee. Finalists and their representatives are expected to participate in the Awards community and attend the Gala where possible. Attendance requires an appropriate event ticket.

  • Description of the work or initiative
  • Evidence of impact and achievements
  • Supporting links, documents, photographs or videos
  • Relevant testimonials or references
What do finalists receive?
Finalists may receive opportunities for professional profiling, storytelling, social media amplification, media visibility, networking and connection with other members of the Spicy Awards ecosystem.
03

Jury & Judging

Who selects the winners?
Winners are selected through an independent jury process involving experienced leaders, practitioners, experts and individuals with relevant knowledge of the areas represented by the Awards.
How is the jury selected?
Jury members are selected based on relevant expertise, experience, integrity, professional standing and alignment with the principles of the Spicy Awards. Jury members are required to respect confidentiality and declare potential conflicts of interest.
How are nominations evaluated?
The core mechanics of the evaluation framework break down as follows:

The 100-Point Scorecard

Competitive entries are graded by an independent jury using a structured score distribution:

Assessment Area Weight
Significance — The historical or systemic importance of the challenge, opportunity, or community contribution within its context. 30%
Transformation — Demonstrated positive outcomes, systemic shifts, progress, or measurable differences made. 25%
Accountability — The ethical conduct, integrity, clear responsibility, and credibility of the nominee’s work. 20%
Sustainability — The capacity of the initiative to endure, scale up, adapt over time, or create lasting value. 15%
Reach — The depth and breadth of the project's influence relative to its resources and operating environment. 10%

The STARS Methodology

The jury relies on five focal questions to evaluate the qualitative impact narrative of each changemaker. Learn more about STARS.

  • S — Significance: How critical is the specific problem being addressed?
  • T — Transformation: What structural or community change has occurred due to the work?
  • A — Accountability: How transparently does the nominee practice integrity and ownership?
  • R — Reach: Who has been affected, relative to localized operating challenges and resources?
  • S — Sustainability: Can the positive contribution survive, adapt, or build long-term value?

The 8 Stages of Assessment

Every regular competitive nomination passes through a linear, eight-step governance sequence:

  1. Nomination & Intake: Submissions are officially logged along with their primary archetype, category, and impact stories.
  2. Eligibility Screening: The Secretariat filters submissions against deadlines, basic rules, and entry conditions.
  3. Archetype & Category Fit: The entry is aligned to its proper context; misallocated entries can be re-routed to more accurate categories.
  4. Evidence & STARS Assessment: Claims are audited through the STARS lenses alongside raw metrics and impact data.
  5. Independent Jury Review: Evaluators score entries privately using the 100-point framework to protect process integrity.
  6. Verification & Due Diligence: The program cross-checks references, public data, and external reports to prevent false formatting.
  7. Deliberation & Moderation: The jury gathers collectively to review disparities in scoring and moderate contextual factors.
  8. Final Determination & Governance: Outcomes are confirmed by the Awarding Board under strict alignment with official bylaws.
What evidence is considered in judging?

Evidence & Integrity Rules

  • Supported Claims: Simple popularity, organizational wealth, media exposure, or social follower counts do not establish merit. Submissions must present hard evidence (data, verified reports, beneficiary feedback, or case studies) evaluated for relevance, recency, and clean attribution. View the Judging Process.
  • Conflict Safeguards: Jurors must explicitly declare all perceived or direct conflicts of interest, resulting in category recusals where necessary. Sponsors and external corporate entities are legally barred from altering competitive voting outputs.
  • People's Choice Track: The public-voted paths function completely separate from the jury track. Public voting structures do not influence the scores of core jury-assessed categories.
How are conflicts of interest handled?
Jury members must explicitly declare all perceived or direct conflicts of interest. Where necessary, a juror recuses themselves from the relevant nomination or category. Sponsors, partners, nominees, nominators and other external entities do not direct competitive judging outcomes.
Can jury members nominate someone?
Jury members may identify potential nominees, but any actual or potential conflict of interest must be disclosed. A jury member must recuse themselves from evaluating or discussing a nominee with whom they have a conflict.
04

Public Voting

Is there public voting?
Public voting may be used for designated special categories where applicable. The main Award categories are determined through the independent jury process.
Can I vote for someone I nominated?
Where public voting is available for a particular category, eligible participants may vote according to the published voting rules.
How does the People's Choice Track relate to jury judging?
The People's Choice Track functions completely separately from the jury track. Public voting structures do not influence the scores of core jury-assessed categories.
Does public voting determine all winners?
No. Public voting does not replace the independent jury process for the principal Award categories.
