The Spicy Awards is not just another awards program — it’s a movement that celebrates the courage, creativity, and resilience of changemakers who ignite transformation in their communities.
Born out of the grassroots leadership incubator, Spice Without Borders, the Spicy Awards was founded by Erick Inghatt Matsanza in 2024 to celebrate unsung heroes and bold initiatives rising from the margins.
Inspired by the vision of building inclusive ecosystems of changemakers, the Spicy Awards shines a light on individuals and organizations whose work redefines what leadership looks like — from the margins, not the mainstream.
We believe that the most powerful change often begins where resources are scarce but passion burns bright. Inspired by the chili — our symbol of enduring spirit — the Spicy Awards recognizes those who remain potent under pressure: activists, creatives, entrepreneurs, initiators, and innovators who embody the essence of SPICE: Strength, Purpose, Innovation, Creativism, and Equity.
Every colour of the chili — Red, Purple, Orange, Green, and Yellow — represents a spark of transformation.
Together, they form a tapestry of voices that burn not to destroy, but to illuminate and inspire.
